Hair Trend: Silver Vixens
I’m really drawn to the images I am seeing of the fast growing trend for grey hair. Chunks of silver grey were seen at Chanel set on high, extravagant up do’s. While at Giles Deacon the models wore a more edgy overall ashy tone to the hair with a slightly matt finish. I love both. The Chanel chunks for their high glamour factor and the Giles Deacon take for more everyday wear.
Quick on the mark celebs like Kate Moss and Pixie Geldof have had their grey do’s for a while now. Even 13 year old Fashion Blogger TaviGevinson sported a glossy new grey barnet at the recent New York Fashion Week.
I don’t see grey just being a fad though. I think it may be the beginning of a shift in what we perceive as suitable colours for our manes to be. For many years now we have been opting for warmer tones through our hair – caramels, honeys, chocolates, golds, coppers – you get the picture. And I don’t know about you but I’m getting a little tired of those edible sounding shades and the constant battling against that brassy tinge that inevitably sets in after a couple of weeks. You don’t get that with a grey. A full head of silver isn’t for everyone though, I do understand and am under no illusion that this isn’t about allowing my stray, wiry strands on my crown to be set free. But, next time I touch up my roots I’ll definitely be going for a more ashy, muted tone to my brunette locks. That orange halo will be sent to Coventry for good.
